MEET
MICHAEL WHITE
A Life of Service, A Record of Results, A Vision for Our Future
Michael White’s journey from the streets of Ypsilanti to the global stage, from a U.S. Army uniform to corporate boardrooms, and from grassroots activism to the frontlines of Michigan politics, is a testament to grit, service, and an unwavering belief in people over politics.
Raised to believe that leadership is earned through service, Michael began his career with Kalamazoo Public Schools (1997–2001), where he quickly rose to Vice President of the Transportation Association for the MEA. He went on to serve with AFLAC and then AT&T, where over two decades he led leadership development programs that trained thousands, managed multi-million-dollar initiatives, and created opportunities for advancement for employees across the country. A proud union member throughout his career, Michael has been a strong voice for better wages, safer workplaces, and fair treatment—marching in picket lines, negotiating contracts, and never shying away from a fight for working families.
Michael’s leadership extends beyond the workplace. He is a U.S. Army veteran, a world traveler with professional assignments in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and a relentless advocate for community empowerment here at home. In his own words, “I’ve seen the world, but my heart is right here in Michigan—fighting for my neighbors, my community, and our future.”
In 2013, Michael founded Connecting Academics, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that has empowered countless youth through education, mentorship, and human rights advocacy, including the #EqualAtTheBox movement for environmental justice reform. As President of Educate Youth, he has helped provide critical academic support, meals, and mentorship to students in Ypsilanti. Through his leadership in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Michael has continued the Women of Achievement scholarship program, which has raised over $350,000 and awarding more than 300 scholarships to graduating seniors and first-year college students.
Michael’s community service is as deep as it is wide—feeding families through literacy programs, providing school supplies to children, organizing voter registration drives since 2013, advocating for affordable housing, and mentoring the next generation of leaders.
He has stood in historic moments: the Million Man March (1995), the World Trade Center (2001), the Obama Inauguration (2009), the United Nations World Urban Forum (2014), and the 50th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma (2015) alongside President Obama. These experiences have shaped his political compass—anchored in justice, equity, and opportunity for all.
Michael is more than a candidate—he’s a proven leader with the lived experience to understand everyday struggles and the courage to confront them head-on. He’s fought for student aid, defended DEI programs, stood against book bans, and championed policies that protect workers, strengthen communities, and expand opportunity.
At home, Michael is a proud husband to Dana, a Registered Nurse, BSN, and MBA graduate; a devoted father to Chandler, a future Michigan State University animal radiologist/surgeon; and a proud father to a son he raised as a single dad all the way to college.
Now, Michael White is ready to bring his record of results, his passion for people, and his unshakable belief in Michigan’s potential to the State Senate.
Because this race is not just about politics—it’s about our shared story, our shared struggle, and our shared victory.
